30 Years of Dedicated
Service to New York's Seniors
and their Families
Since 1978, the Institute for the Puerto Rican/Hispanic Elderly, Inc. has
touched the lives of New York City's
community of Hispanic/minority seniors and their families, advancing the
fundamental right of each individual to age with dignity. For three decades, we
have empowered our elderly through education, case management, and caregiver
programs to ensure that their basic needs are met. We have fought long
and hard to promote and protect senior rights; and access to entitlements and
benefits through our strong public advocacy efforts as well as through our
multilingual/multicultural programs and direct assistance services provided
citywide at eight senior centers, out-stationed sites, four subsidiaries
and two senior residences.
The Institute continues to serve as an important resource for not-for-profits,
government agencies and businesses throughout the United
States and Puerto Rico
by providing technical assistance, training, and consultation in areas such as
culturally responsive program design and service delivery; and access to
elderly minority communities. The Institute founded the Minority Aging
Defense Council, co-founded the Hispanic AIDS Forum, and sponsored the
Coalition of Hispanic Service Providers.
As we enter our fourth decade of service, the Institute remains committed to
serving the Hispanic/minority elderly and their families with excellence,
dedication and compassion. We stand ready to meet the challenges of a new
generation of active and vibrant baby-boomers, and an ever increasing number of
Hispanic/minority older adults now approaching their 70's, 80's and 90's.
